LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- A suspect in a police chase in northern Pennsylvania was shot and killed early Sunday morning by a police officer. State Police said Brian Elwood, 28, of Knoxville, fled after a member of the Elkland Boro Police Department tried to pull him over on State Route 49 around 3:30 a.m. Sunday for a traffic violation.

Elwood eventually lost control on Shepherd Creek Road in Lawrence Township. When confronted by the officer, he drove his vehicle into the front of the stopped police SUV. At that point, the officer got out and ordered Elwood out of his vehicle, but according to investigators, he refused to comply and drove his vehicle towards the officer.

The Elkland Police officer then opened fire, killing Elwood. The officer's name has not been released and State Police said no other information will be released as the investigation continues.
