ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The Department of Defense is releasing more information on the Rochester soldier who was killed while serving in Afghanistan. Private First Class Theodore Matthew Glende, 23, was killed Friday when enemy forces attacked his unit with small arms fire. It happened in Kharwar in the Logar province of Afghanistan.
Glende's mother says she was informed by officers from Fort Drum that Glende was killed while giving medical aid to five fellow soldiers.
Glende was just married back in April. He was a student at McQuaid High School and Niagara University before serving overseas in the Army.
Glende's mother says his body is expected to be returned to Rochester later this week and then funeral arrangements will be made.
