Cantina Laredo opens at Destiny USA

A new Mexican restaurant is the latest to open as part of the Destiny expansion at Carousel Center. Cantina Laredo joins the Melting Pot as the first restaurants to open in the Canyon area of the new facility. Brad Vivacqua tells us Destiny officials are confident a flurry of new upscale restaurants at the new site will find success.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Just before Carousel Center officially becomes Destiny USA, a new upscale Mexican restaurant, Cantina Laredo, is now open for business.

"First one in New York State. Where does it land? Destiny USA, Syracuse, New York," said Destiny USA Executive Member David Aitken.

The new restaurant is one of what will be about 100 new tenants included in the Destiny expansion.

While officials would consider it an upscale restaurant, there's still plenty of entrees and appetizers available for under $20. The menu offers Mexican dishes ranging from chicken, fish and steak.

"We do a lot of things fresh every day, our sauces, our salsas. Hand squeezed limes for our margaritas. It's just a modern take on Mexican cuisine," said Cantina Laredo General Manager Matthew Lynch.

Cantina Laredo joins the Melting Pot as the first to open, while PF Chang’s and Gordon Biersh will open in Destiny later this fall. A few more restaurants will come next year and a few others haven't yet been announced. The question is can they all survive in one location.

"Oh very much so. They're affordable. And I think a welcomed addition to the marketplace. Again, our goal is twofold. Create a great place for people to come who live in the market, but serve as a magnet for people to come in from outside of town," said Aitken.

And if those people do come from outside of town, there's no doubt a great variety of restaurants will make everyone happy.

Once complete, Destiny USA will include more than 260 tenants, including restaurants, stores and entertainment venues.

A celebration is planned for this Thursday as Carousel Center officially becomes Destiny USA.
