MADISON COUNTY, N.Y. -- The Madison County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the discovery of a body that washed ashore on Oneida Lake Tuesday night.

The victim, who is believed to be in his 40s or 50s, was spotted in the water behind a home on Pierce Road in Sullivan. Investigators don't believe foul play was involved. They say it appears he may have suffered a medical condition while swimming in the water.

Authorities are in the process of checking the area for anyone who might be missing.

"We're just going to canvass the neighborhood, see if any camps are empty, where somebody may have been renting a camp or the camp is empty and they're there for the week by themselves. We've had no reports of missing persons so far," said Madison County Sheriff Allen Riley.

The body has been taken to the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s office where an autopsy is expected to be performed.

Sheriff's deputies are now looking into anyone who might be missing from the area. Anyone with information is asked to contact investigators at (315) 366-2311.
