Deputies search for robbery suspect

CHEMUNG COUNTY, N.Y. -- A search is underway for a man in Chemung County after the sheriff's office says he fired a weapon during a robbery. It happened at Steed's Pharmacy on Broadway Street in Southport around 1 p.m. Thursday.

Authorities say the man entered the store displayed a handgun to two clerks and then stole an undisclosed amount of narcotics. Officials say when the man went to leave, he was confronted by the store owner and fired a gun. No one was hurt, but the man did escape.

Officials say the suspect was a male between 5'9'' and 5'11'' and that he was wearing a gray pair of sweatpants with a blue stripe down the side, along with a gray hoodie and a second hoodie over that one, backwards with two holes cut out for his eyes. He was last seen leaving the area in a dark colored two door sedan with a spoiler with a newer New York State license plate.

The Chemung County Sheriff’s office is asking anyone who may have been in the area around that time to please contact them at (607) 737-2933.
