SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A fire displaced two families in the City of Syracuse Thursday.

A two unit home on North Avenue caught fire around 5 p.m. The chief says it appears to have started in the front apartment, possibly in the kitchen, but it's too early to tell a cause. He says each apartment in the building had an upstairs and a downstairs, which made it tricky for firefighters when they first arrived.

"Causes a challenge to us because we expect to go upstairs and to be able to search the entire second floor and we run into a wall. So we actually have to come outside. A separate team has to go inside, search the upstairs and the back apartment, so it's a two apartment house," Syracuse Fire Chief Mark McLees said.

Six people in all were displaced, however, there were no injuries reported.
