OSWEGO, N.Y. -- The Oswego City School District is considering creating a new athletic position that would help student athletes transition into college.

Superintendent Bill Crist says the Athletic Transition Coordinator would focus on helping student athletes find the right college programs and scholarships. The individual would also help athletes transition from local sports into the high school programs.

The full time position would pay about $40,000 per year, but Crist says most of that money is already in the budget, due to savings in salary payments toward other positions.

"I think it’s money well spent when you think about the enhancements it brings to a program that we're already looking to continue to improve upon. I think we've made some leaps and bounds in our athletic program over the past four or five years and certainly we want to continue to do that," Crist said.

Crist also clarified that despite rumors in the community, this individual will not serve as simply an assistant athletic director.

Tuesday evening, the Board of Education voted to post the position. Applications will be accepted starting Friday.
