MADISON COUNTY, N.Y. -- A fire broke out in the Village of Munnsville on North Main Street late Thursday night.

Fire officials say 12 fire departments responded to the fire at the Munnsville Hotel around 8:45 p.m. Thursday. They say the fire started on the second floor and spread quickly to the attic space, making the building a total loss.

"Due to the construction of the building and the placement of the metal roof, it made ventilation very difficult. It also held the heat in and made the fire much hotter than normal. It was really tough on the crews inside," said Jeff Cardinali, Deputy Fire Coordinator.

While it's called the Munnsville Hotel, it actually houses apartments. Fire officials say about 12 to 14 people lived there at the time, and everyone got out safely. No one was hurt.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.

This is the same location where a woman died back in June while being taken into custody while high on bath salts.
