SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Governor Cuomo says New York is making progress in its effort to change its image when it comes to business.

Cuomo says he's pressed for the state to ease the tax burden on companies, while also aiding expansion efforts through awards of millions of dollars to various businesses statewide.

One of the companies on the receiving end of new state grants if Cooper Crouse-Hinds, in Syracuse. The company received close to $300,000 to aid in efforts to create a new research and development unit for its lighting products. Cuomo toured the plant, saying state assistance makes sense.

“It's all about jobs, jobs, jobs. Especially in Upstate New York. And for many years, New York State didn't get that message. And New York developed the perception or the reality of being an anti-business state. You have no future, a state has no future, as an anti-business state,” Cuomo said

The governor says direct grants and new regional economic projects will help turn the state's economy around.
