WATERTOWN, N.Y. -- Demolition crews went to work on a Watertown apartment building Tuesday, tearing down the eyesore at the corner of High and Olive streets.

The structure sustained heavy damage in a fire back in May and was considered a public danger because of possible asbestos. The city hired a contractor to demolish it after the owner of the building failed to respond to the Codes Department.

The one detail left unresolved was a cat named Stripey that had been spotted in the building several times since the fire. Crews did search briefly, but were unable to locate the cat.

Meanwhile, charges have been filed against Joshua Metzler, who is accused of intentionally setting the fire. He has been charged with second degree arson.
