BROOME COUNTY, N.Y. -- Town of Fenton officials have gotten more information about a locker full of explosives being stored on town property.

The explosives are being used for the Prospect Mountain Excavation, but some residents and town officials are concerned about where they are being stored.

The explosives locker is located off of Route 369. But there are no warning signs around it and no permits were filed with the town.

But Fenton Town Supervisor Dave Hamlin now says there is no cause for concern. He spoke with the DOT and Department of Labor Thursday. Hamlin says both the fire department and town engineer were properly notified about the locker, but says no approval was necessary.

Hamlin says no one is in danger.

"They don't have anything to really worry about. It’s very safe. I don't know how long the project is going to continue, but they are very, very highly regulated," Hamlin said.

The explosives are being used for rock excavation work along Prospect Mountain in the City of Binghamton. Blasting will continue through mid-August.

The work is part of a four year long project.
