MADISON COUNTY, N.Y. -- The investigation into charges against a federal prosecutor in Madison County is now being reviewed by the Otsego County DA, who has been appointed as a special prosecutor.
Craig Benedict, an assistant U.S. attorney, faces a misdemeanor charge of second degree criminal nuisance.
Sheriff's deputies and village police responded to Benedict's home in Cazenovia just before 1:30 a.m. on July 15th after getting a report of an assault at a loud party. Authorities say between 100 and 200 people were on the property for a graduation party.
The Sheriff's office says its investigation is now complete, but information will not be released until after the special prosecutor's review.
