GEDDES, N.Y. -- The weight throw and caber toss were just two of the many events as a little bit of Scotland came to Onondaga County. The Scottish Games and Celtic Festival took over Long Branch Park on Saturday.

The event is modeled after the ancient Highland Games, which historically featured three main competitions, piping and drumming, dance, and those distinctive Scottish athletics.

"It takes us back to our ancestry, where there wasn't soccer. These are the alternatives. So, athletics is a big part of the games as well," said Bob MacLeod, Scottish Games Committee Member.

This was the 71st year for the Scottish Games.
