WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. - It was deja vu in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Watkins Glen International on Saturday as late mayhem led to Marcos Ambrose holding off Brad Keselowski just like last year.
In 2011 a late crash shook things up, this time it was oil scattered around the track. Kyle Busch led heading into the first turn of the final lap but spun out when he made contact with Keselowski then Ambrose used a bump-and-run to pull ahead of Keselowski with less than a half-lap remaining and did not relinquish the lead. It marked the first time in NASCAR's history at the Glen that the winner took the lead on the final lap.
Ambrose has now won at the Glen five years in a row with two-straight Sprint Cup Series wins and three-straight Nationwide Series wins before that. Jimmie Johnson finished third and took over the points lead from Dale Earnhardt Junior with four races remaining until the Chase playoffs. Cato native Regan Smith placed ninth, marking the second-straight week he has finished in the top-10.
