FULTON, N.Y. -- This is a really special for students, faculty, and staff at Cayuga Community College's Fulton campus. Today, the new campus on River Glen Drive will officially open, giving students and staff more space to work in providing a better learning environment.

Over the past few days, the Fulton campus has been closed as faculty members move in to their new offices. In addition to its Auburn site, Cayuga Community College has had a Fulton campus for 18 years.

Officials say enrollment has increased by 24 percent over the last five years and that caused some overcrowding at the West Broadway site. A $16 million overhaul of the former P & C grocery store helps the college add more classrooms and double office space.

Cayuga Community College Public Relations Director Margaret Spillett said, "Our students and faculty and staff, we got to talk with the architects and say what we wanted in those classrooms, how we wanted it to look, what kinds of services, what kinds of equipment we needed. And what we have is what we asked for."

The college will maintain its lease at its West Broadway site and offer workforce development programming there. The college looks to add programming and services in Oswego County.

Classes this year begin August 26th.
