BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- Opening statements happened Tuesday in the trial of a Baldwinsville mother accused of killing her two-year-old son in Broome County. Veronica Taft is facing charges of second degree murder, manslaughter, and six counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

She is on trial for the December 29th death of her son, Lyric. He was found unresponsive in her Binghamton home, which is where she was living at the time.

An autopsy revealed that the boy suffered multiple traumas to his body.

Taft was arrested back in September 2011 following an eight month investigation.

Her murder trial will continue in Broome County Court on Wednesday.
