SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Firefighters are out in the streets of Syracuse to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. City officials held a press conference outside city hall Thursday morning to declare August 16th MDA Fill the Boot Day.
You'll see firefighters with boots throughout the day to benefit the MDA, a non-profit agency dedicated to curing muscular dystrophy, ALS and other related diseases.
Local representatives of the association say the support from the Syracuse community is important.
"Well, I mean, it's always great to see people in the community just coming back and going out, willing to donate their time and energy throughout a work day. To really just go out and try and raise money in the streets and try and flag people down," said Skyler Canute, Local Ambassador for Muscular Dystrophy Association.
The firefighters will be out at various intersections throughout the city ready for your donations on your commute home from work.
