EAST SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A mangled truck sits at the scene of a crash that killed two people in East Syracuse Friday night.
Sheriff's Deputies say a woman was driving the truck south on Fly Road and missed a 90 degree turn in the road. The truck wound up sliding off the left side of the road, went through a fence, took out a tree and then landed in a second tree about five feet off the ground.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. A man in the passenger seat died shortly after being taken to the hospital.
Investigators believe speed was a factor, especially because of a discovery they made at the scene.
"The engine of the truck, on impact, ripped out of the pickup truck and slammed into the front of the building, caused a large hole in the side of the building. So it must have been traveling at a high rate of speed," Onondaga County Sheriff Kevin Walsh said.
We don't believe anyone in the building was hurt. The crash remains under investigation.
