Elderly woman charged in hit and run collision
NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. -- An elderly woman has been charged in a hit and run in New Hartford. Police say a 32-year-old motorcyclist was hit by a car on the Seneca Turnpike Monday morning. They were told by witnesses that the driver stopped and got out of her car, saw the downed motorcycle, and got back in her car and drove off.
Police later received a call from Martha Chopchic, 83, who admitted to colliding with the bike. She was ticketed for failing to yield the right-of-way, and for leaving the scene of a personal injury accident.
The motorcyclist sustained injuries to his neck, leg, back and arm but they are believed to be non-life threatening.
