NATIONWIDE -- It's the end of an era for fans of Twinkies as Hostess Brands announced that it's asking for federal bankruptcy court to shut down the business.

The reason for the closure is because of a strike by bakers who have been protesting a new contract.

As a result of the closure, more than 18,000 people will be out of a job as the company is shutting down 33 bakeries and 565 distribution centers across the country.

Hostess owns an outlet store and warehouse on East Molloy Road in the Town of DeWitt.

Hostess was the creator of Twinkies, Devil Dogs, and Wonder Bread.
