OSWEGO COUNTY, N.Y. -- Staff at the FitzPatrick Nuclear Plant in Oswego County are continuing their investigation into what caused a transformer fire back on November 11th.

The facility has two transformers that take the energy produced by the generator, step up the voltage, then send it out to the electrical grid. Officials say the damaged transformer cannot be repaired. They believe the fire was caused by an internal component failure. The manufacturer is now working with FitzPatrick to figure out why.

It is unclear when the necessary changes will be made and the plant brought back online.
