ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- If you're traveling this week, be ready to be patient.

It’s estimated that 43.6 million Americans are expected to travel 50 miles or farther from home this Thanksgiving weekend. Ninety percent of those travelers were expected to get behind the wheel to make their way to loved ones.

We caught up with one family making their yearly six- hour trip from Buffalo to Hyde Park. They say bringing along entertainment and catching up on sleep are ways to pass the time.

As for the driver, he says the traffic was nothing they couldn't handle.

"We travel every year on this day and we left a little bit early. Megan finished school a little bit early, so we hit the road before most of the traffic will probably be there," Buffalo resident Michael O’Malley said.

AAA says waiting to travel until Thanksgiving Day itself could be a good way to avoid congestion on the roads.
