SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Most stores opened their doors at midnight for the first time since the mall opened as Carousel Center in 1990. Mall officials say it's part of an effort to make Destiny USA stand out this holiday season and beyond.

"It was busier than I thought. Right now, you look around here, you see people sitting on the floor, you see people at benches with all their bags, and I think the stores have a chance to put their store back together before our next wave, which is going to hit us in the next few hours," said Rob Schoeneck, Destiny USA General Manager.

Aside from Destiny USA opening at midnight, several stores - including Walmart and Sears - opened at 8 p.m., and Target followed at 9 p.m. There were already people in line there at 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

There have been mixed reviews about this early shopping time. Some people love it, but others say they would rather be doing something else but money's tight, so they need the good deals.
