Black Friday marriage proposal
Black Friday and all its deals and mayhem kick off the holiday shopping season. Stores started deals as early as 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving. Destiny USA opened most of its stores, restaurants and attractions at midnight. As our Katie Gibas reports, besides all of the shopping, there was some unexpected excitement for one couple at the mall.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- There's no question Black Friday is crazy and anything can happen. You might even get a marriage proposal.
"It was shocking. She didn't expect it. I went up, got the ring. We went to Wendy's and she expected to get a Jr. Bacon. But instead, she dug in the bag and got a ring," said Nicholas Simmons, a Black Friday shopper.
Simmons says proposing on Black Friday was only fitting. "That's what brought us together in the first place....we ran across each other while we were shopping. And ever since that, that's what we enjoy the most is shopping."
But engagement rings weren't the only good deals this Black Friday. Those who came out say there were plenty of great sales everywhere they went.
"Sports Authority was where I found most of my Christmas gifts. They had really good deals. Macy's had really good deals. I come pretty much every year, and they keep getting better," said Erin Baker, a Black Friday shopper
All the stores at Destiny USA opened at midnight. But there were shoppers already in line well before that.
"There were lines everywhere. Best Buy had the worst line. It was wrapped around the mall," said Baker.
Vincent Estrada, a Black Friday shopper added, "It was packed. There was a line here from Victoria's Secret, all the way down, almost to under the Carousel and Food Court."
And as part of their effort to make Destiny USA a destination, many restaurants and attractions were open at midnight, too.
"I had a couple guy friends here actually doing the ropes course. I'm sure a lot of them do the racetrack. It's something they can do while their girlfriends or families are out shopping," said Baker.
As for Simmons and his fiance, they didn't take part in those attractions. They were just at Destiny for the shopping. They plan to get married in three years on, well, of course, Black Friday.
