FORT DRUM, N.Y. -- The Department of Defense has announced that the 10th Mountain Division's First Brigade Combat Team will deploy to Afghanistan this winter.

The First Brigade Combat Team is one of three major units deploying as part of the upcoming rotation of forces operating in Afghanistan. The units will be assisting and advising Afghan units to help them get to a point where they can conduct their own security operations.

The 4th Brigade Combat Team and 101st Airborne Division out of Fort Campbell will also deploy.
