MADRID, N.Y. -- If you are a little short on cash this holiday season, the Madrid Public Library is giving people in the North Country a chance to get Christmas gifts that are cheap and educational.

The library is running a book sale with current and older selections for adults and children. Prices range from 25 cents to one dollar. The library also has a number of one dollar DVDs.

It all serves as a fundraiser for the library.

Library officials say giving a book to a child can be beneficial in the long run.

"The New York State new requirements for testing are really becoming harder for our students. So whenever you can read to your student or help them with a book, giving them a book is a great idea," said Laurean Pelkey, president of the Madrid Library Board of Trustees.

If you missed it Monday, you can still catch the sale from 2 until 5 p.m. Tuesday.
