FRANKLIN COUNTY, N.Y. -- A Franklin County college is going tobacco-free. Paul Smith's College in Brighton announces as of August 1st, 2014, the use of cigarettes, chewing tobacco and other tobacco products will not be allowed on campus.

College officials say they made this decision for several reasons, including environmental factors. They say details are still being worked out, and the plan will be rolled out in phases.

As of now, tobacco use will still be permitted in areas where it is currently allowed. The college is also working to make resources available to help students quit.

825 other campuses have already banned smoking.
