NEW YORK STATE -- Anti-gun groups across the country have been holding vigils in the wake of the Connecticut elementary school shooting. Two were held in our region.

In Syracuse, people gathered at Bethany Baptist Church on Beattie Street. This was one of around 250 vigils from coast to coast.

People also came together at Confluence Park in Binghamton. The message was the same, as people called for the end of gun violence.

"We're attempting to light candles to put some light on a dark, dark situation that's going on in this country. We're focusing on some of the ideas here in our circle as to what we can do and what other people can do," said Jack Gilroy of St. James Peace and Justice.

The groups plan to call local congressman and senators, demanding politicians take another look at gun control.
