SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A Christmas party was held at the Butternut Community Police Center. Families got a chance to grab a bite to eat. Children got to meet Santa and received a gift.

The Syracuse Police Department says it’s an important part of continuing a positive relationship with the North side community.

"People in this area really do need the gifts, they need the connection with the police department. They need a connection with an organization like Butternut Center where it’s a great place for the entire community to come together," said Officer Kenn Burdick, Syracuse Police.

50 volunteers helped serve more than one thousand people at the event. It’s the fourth year Syracuse Police has hosted the holiday party.
