BROOME COUNTY, N.Y. -- A Binghamton man has been sentenced for shooting and stabbing another man to death in the town of Chenango in October of 2011. Daniel Doherty will serve 23 years in prison plus give years post release supervision for the death of Daniel Martinez.

Doherty admitted to shooting and stabbing Martinez multiple times. He was originally charged with second degree murder but that charge was lessened to manslaughter as part of a plea agreement. Under that plea agreement, Doherty testified against another man, Joseph Ross-Jones, who was also charged with the crime. Ross-Jones was found not guilty of murder in December.

Still, the District Attorney told the judge that Doherty did everything that was asked of him and recommended he get the sentence in the plea agreement.

Doherty told the court that he thinks about what he did every day and feels he deserves his sentence.
