BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- It's taken more than a year to bring the plans together, but the final paperwork was signed Thursday and now the property of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church becomes a future campus of Davis College.

Davis College representatives, including President Dino Pedrone, met with Reverend Edward Zandy of St. Vincent De Paul to finalize the sale.

After the church was damaged by flood waters twice in five years, Blessed Sacrament merged with St. Vincent De Paul in Vestal. Davis College, with its campus just blocks away, saw the property as an opportunity to expand.

“The thought began many years ago with people from there and here talking about this idea that this would be a possibility. And over the last year, when the flood happened down there and the church decided to go to St. Vincent, so we became very interested,” said Pedrone.

The college plans to use the new Chrisfield campus for its chapel and technology center, as well as more classroom space.
