TUPPER LAKE, N.Y. -- A group of local politicians and residents gathered at The Wild Center in Tupper Lake Wednesday to hear the regional State of the State Address.

Deputy Secretary of State for Local Government Dede Scozzafava discussed the ways the governor's goals can directly benefit the North Country. Among them, the governor's proposal for a $5 million marketing competition between different regions in the state.

"The governor recognizes that many parts of the state has regional attractions. We've got the Adirondacks here in the North Country. We have the thousand islands over on the other side of the North Country. We have a lot of regional destinations," said Scozzafava.

The governor also proposed building three new casinos upstate with a portion of the revenue going toward property tax relief, something North Country residents say they desperately need.
