SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Students rallied on the SU Hill Monday afternoon in support of a public safety officer.

Officer Joe Shanley is a member of the Department of Public Safety at Syracuse University. He is beloved by the students and the campus community.

A recent restructuring of the department now means that Officer Shanley will no longer be able to interact with students in the same way he did as part of the Community Policing Division.

"We're upset about it mostly because the students weren't really informed about it," graduate student Paul Ang said.

"This was a part of a reorganization and so it was about continuing to improve the whole organization. And so Joe will continue to be a vital part of that organization," said Thomas Wolfe, Senior Vice President of Student Affairs at SU.

Students plan to continue to look for more opportunities to support Officer Shanley until a resolution has been reached.
