Emergency officials are closely monitoring the situation in Malone as Lower Park Street remains flooded. The waters seems to have stopped rising. Many people are wondering what will happen next. Barry Wygel has more.

MALONE, N.Y. -- The situation has pretty much stabilized, but there is still a three to four foot river going down Lower Park Street. Eight families are still out of their homes and a couple more than that are without power.

Right now, the thinking has turned to what is going to happen after the waters recede. There are concerns of ice chunks flowing down the river and potentially damaging the houses even more. There's also a lot of concern about well contamination. Officials are saying they are going to have to wait and see what happens.

"We're going to monitor 24/7, while the rain and the warm temperatures are coming in. We see a little freeze up after Friday and Saturday it's going to be back down into the 20s and teens that night, which is good," said Emergency Services Director Rickey Provost.

The reason officials don't have a set plan for what's going to happen when the waters recede is this is an unprecedented situation. The ice jam has never stretched up to 4,000 feet before. This area has known flooding in the past, but never like this.
