ONEIDA COUNTY, N.Y. -- The ice jam that caused residents in Sylvan Beach to evacuate Thursday may be broken up today, but it still left its mark on area homes.

The ice jam caused water to flood more than a dozen houses near the Barge Canal. More than two dozen people and their animals were removed during the evacuation process. The ice jam formed near where Fish Creek and the barge canal meet.

Residents say they've seen flooding before but never this much. And even though people are back in their homes today, some are not in the clear. Some homes had as much as eight feet of water in their basements, and residents will now be dealing with the damage.
