Fashion Week 2013: J. Crew, Tory Burch

NEW YORK CITY, N.Y. -- Get ready to pack your bags and head to Marrakesh. J. Crew's head of women's design drew his fall inspiration from his last vacation.
“The rugs, the tiles on the floor in the streets, the faded look of the building and I took a desert safari as well and stayed in a tent so that was just so magical,” said Tom Mora, head of women’s design for J. Crew.
With exotic beading and embroidery, Mora says he hopes these clothes may every woman feel confident.
Mora said, “The woman makes the clothes, it's not the other way around.”
And over on the men's side, David Baley's 1965 picture of Michael Kane helped inspire these looks.
“More dressed up guys, more polished. You saw more white shirts with ties buttoned up all the way,” said Frank Muytjens, head of men’s design for J. Crew.
And now we leave Lincoln Center and jet over to the Pierre Hotel where Tory Burch is launching romantic pieces for fall.
Burch said, “It was many trips to the gallery and the artwork of Gustav Klint and just sort of the era of Art Nouveau, but taking elements also from Lalique crystal whether it was the dragonfly or scarab.”
With tweeds and beads and even beetle-embellished pieces, Burch says this free-spirited collection was about all decorative details.
“One was electric eel, which was inspired by the wing of a beetle, so it's this great blue green and mixing it with black. It's hard to make beetles and bugs interesting to want to wear,” Burch said.
But these fashion experts say these pieces will fly out of stores.
“It's fresh, it's female and it's sexy without being overt,” said Joanna Coles, Editor-in-Chief of Cosmopolitan Magazine.
“Her clothes always look modern, they're very wearable. The prints are completely distinctive,” said Cindy Weber Cleary, fashion director of InStyle Magazine.
“It's definitely the grown up Tory Burch woman, but it definitely has that sweetness to it,” said Stephanie Winston Wolkodd, founder of SWW Creative.
