Authorities investigating the murder that took place in the Town of Dix last week are confident that they now have all the suspects in custody that were directly involved in the crime. As our Bill Mich tells us, Wednesday, police revealed the relationships the suspects had to the victim, Daniel Bennett, 31.
SCHUYLER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Tuesday night, New York State Police and the Schuyler County Sheriff announced the arrest of Alice Trappler, 39, of Addison, charging her with second degree murder.
Trappler's relationship to last week's murder victim in the Town of Dix, Daniel Bennett, 31, was made clear on Wednesday.
"Alice Trappler had a child in common with the victim, Daniel Bennett. We do know there was an ongoing family court case in the custody issue of their child," Schuyler County Sheriff Bill Yessman said.
In fact, police said last Friday, Bennett and Trappler were due in Steuben County Family Court, a day after Bennett was murdered in his home.
The arrest of another suspect was announced Tuesday, Nathan Hand, 25. Hand was the step-brother of Thomas Borden, 32, Trappler's ex-husband, who was also wanted in this case, but committed suicide by jumping in front of a commuter train outside Philadelphia on Monday.
"To the best of our knowledge, Thomas Borden was the actual shooter. His brother accompanying him to the residence," Yessman said.
Police said they have recovered the murder weapon, a 12 gauge shotgun, in a remote area in Steuben County. And while authorities have pieced together the relationship that the suspects had with the victim, they will still not comment on any motive at this time.
One thing the Schuyler County Sheriff did say is that there could be more arrests coming but they are confident, none of them would be directly related to the murder.
